Age Related Macular Degeneration is a group of disorders of the human eye. Therefore the damage could be on the macula lutea ("the point of sharpest vision") or called "yellow spot", too. The retina can also be affected and may be accompanied by a gradual loss of function and view.
Age Related Macular Degeneration
The case of progressive disease is affected by the death of retinal cells; the vision in the central visual field will be reduced. By far the most common form of Age Related Macular Degeneration is the age-related (or senile) macular degeneration (ARMD), which can start at the age of 50th. At the age of 65 - to 74-year one of ten suffers from macular degeneration, while from the 75 -to 84-year has already affected one-of third this ARMD disease.
For ARMD, the increased age is certainly one of the main reasons. People are getting about 30% older than previously, in addition a one-sided or poor nutrition. The eye needs during our lifetime antioxidants such as Lutein and Zeanxanthin. These are found in kale, broccoli, tomatoes, etc. Omega 3 is available in fish. Zinc Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex, beta-carotene all this is supporting your eyes. It is therefore very important to the body to get the above mentioned nutrition and vitamins with the right quantities and during our life time. Important is also an active, physical activity. The ARMD causes about 32% of new blindnesss, followed by Glaucoma and Diabetic retinopathy, with about 16% of new blindnesss.
Wet Age Related Macular Degeneration
The Dry ARMD (atrophic) form is about 80% of the cases, and makes approximately 5 to 10% of blindness. It begins by deposits of called druses (deposits of extracellular material below the retina). Their progress is often slow and insidious. This makes itself noticeable through distorted vision.
From the age of 40, we recommend to check your eyes regularly by the eye doctor. A good and a quick Check is to use the Amsler Grid Test for your eyes. If the lines are no longer straight, then take immediately contact with your eye doctor. Anyway this test will never replace the recommended eye check by a specialist.
We recommend using sun protection glasses of CARUSO. We try to postpone with our high technology
products the ARMD as far as possible. It is very important to protect your eyes against UVC, UVB, UVA and
blue light + infrared with our unique filter. Our CARUSO filter is stopping an important part of the
visible blue light for prevention of the macula and retina. The blue light has about 3 time as much
energy as compared to red or yellow color.
Have a look on Pilot Sunglasses.
Our glasses can also be equipped with integrated reading parts. In addition, there are also the possibilities for real diopter with the CR747 Optical Line Pilot sunglasses, which are available in single vision for eyeglass wearers, bifocal or progressive lenses. Our technologies are patent pending.
